Eastbound state Route 16 will close at South Union Avenue at 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and again next Monday through Thursday for girder placement.
The work is part of the Interstate 5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley project.
The girders are being placed for the new permanent eastbound SR 16 viaduct, the South Sprague Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 and the South Sprague on-ramp to northbound I-5.
Traffic will be detoured onto South Union Avenue until the highway reopens by 4 a.m. following the closures.
The work Monday and Tuesday this week also requires closing South Tacoma Way between South Pine and South Wilkeson streets starting at 9 p.m., which detours traffic onto South Center Street until about 4:30 a.m.
Similar closures will continue throughout the summer, according to the state Department of Transportation.
