A Frederickson intersection will shut down tonight while Pierce County crews work on improvements.
The closure begins at 9 p.m. at 176th Avenue East and 22nd Avenue East. It will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
Workers will excavate the roadway, put down crushed rock and then pave the intersection. The improvements are part of a $7 million project intended to improve safety and reduce traffic.
Also included in the project is expanding the road to four lanes, adding curbs, gutters and sidewalks, installing new street lights and improving traffic signals.
Crews started upgrading the intersection in October and construction resumed in March. The intersection is scheduled to be complete this fall.
