Southbound lanes of Interstate 5 between South 48th and M streets in Tacoma will be closed Thursday night while crews finish striping the road, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews will begin closing lanes at 9 p.m. By 11 p.m., a single southbound lane will remain open and drivers will be detoured off I-5 at 38th Street and back onto the freeway near 56th Street.

Two northbound lanes of I-5 will be closed at midnight. On-ramps from Interstate 705 and state Route 7 will also be closed during this time.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.
