Special game day Sounder trains this season

Seattle Mariners and Sounders FC fans will be able to take Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter rail trains to weekend day games this season.

Special Sounder service will operate in addition to regular Link light rail service to and from the stadiums.

Sound Transit will run special Sounder trains to Sounders FC events beginning Saturday, April 13 through Saturday, July 20. Game day trains will serve 12 Mariners games beginning Sunday, April 14 through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Inbound trains from the south will depart Lakewood at 10:45 a.m. Inbound trains from the north will depart Everett at 11:15 a.m. Return trains

SR 16 closure for Nalley Valley project rescheduled for Thursday evening

A closure set for tonight on eastbound state Route 16 has been rescheduled for Thursday night.

Work on the Eastbound Nalley Valley project, which replaces the original SR 16 structure across Nalley Valley and finishes the SR16/Sprague Avenue interchange, will commence at 11 p.m. Thursday and finish about 4 a.m. Friday.

A detour onto Union Avenue will be in place during the closure.


Overnight closure on southbound I-5 in Tacoma for project

Southbound lanes of Interstate 5 between South 48th and M streets in Tacoma will be closed Thursday night while crews finish striping the road, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews will begin closing lanes at 9 p.m. By 11 p.m., a single southbound lane will remain open and drivers will be detoured off I-5 at 38th Street and back onto the freeway near 56th Street.

Two northbound lanes of I-5 will be closed at midnight. On-ramps from Interstate 705 and state Route 7 will also be closed during this time.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.


Studded tires must be removed by Sunday or face $124 ticket

Drivers must remove their studded tires by midnight Sunday, the Department of Transportation warns.

The tires are only legal in Washington from Nov. 1 to March 31. With warming temperatures, WSDOT says the tires are no longer necessary. No extensions will be granted this year.

Those caught with studded tires after March 31 are subject to a $124 ticket.


Murray Morgan Bridge closed this weekend

The Murray Morgan Bridge will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles from 7 p.m. Friday until noon Sunday.

Workers will be finishing the installation of steel channels that are blocked by the counterweights when the bridge is in the down position

In addition, the closure will be used to complete stenciling of the counterweights which was postponed earlier in the year due to weather.

The lift span will be in the up position all weekend for marine traffic.


Tacoma Link extends hours for Bob Seger concert

Sound Transit will operate extended hours for Tacoma Link on Friday, Mar. 29, to accommodate crowds leaving the Bob Seger concert at the Tacoma Dome.

The last northbound train will depart the Tacoma Dome Station at 12:00 a.m.

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.

Sound Transit buses and Link light rail trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule.


5 nighttime eastbound SR 16 closures planned starting tonight, end next Thursday

Eastbound state Route 16 will close at Union Avenue tonight at 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. Friday.

Signs will detour vehicles off SR 16 at Union Avenue, and will lead to Interstate 5.

SR 16 will also close from 12:30 to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, and from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. again starting Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The closures are part of the I-5/SR 16 Eastbound Nalley Valley project to replace the original section of eastbound SR 16 that went over Nalley Valley.

Crews will be doing girder setting work.
