Crews expect to reopen all lanes of South Tacoma Way before Monday morning’s commute, state Department of Transportation officials said Sunday night.

A piece of the old eastbound viaduct fell on the roadway shoulder Friday during demolition, which caused crews to close the road between South Pine and South Wilkeson streets.

No one was injured and there was a safety barrier in place, but gas and water service in the area was affected.

Workers cleared the debris over the weekend, and crews worked to restore gas and water.

The damaged shoulder and one lane was being repaved Sunday night.

Crews have stopped demolition of the old viaduct pending a review of the operation, according to the state Department of Transportation.
