CLEARED: Eastbound SR 302 blocked at 118th Ave NW

UPDATE: All lanes are clear, according to WSDOT.

INITIAL POST: State Route 302 is blocked eastbound at 118th Avenue Northwest and a detour is in place, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A collision about 4:30 p.m. blocked the roadway, department officials said.

The State Patrol is on the scene.


Murray Morgan Bridge to reopen Friday

Tacoma’s Murray Morgan Bridge reopens at noon Friday although work will continue through February, city officials said.

The bridge, which connects downtown Tacoma with the Port of Tacoma and the East Foss Peninsula, closed November 2007 after an inspection found the bridge was structurally deficient.

Rehabilitation of the bridge began in January 2011.

A dedication ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 15. The event will take place near the bridge at the intersection of 11th and A streets. The public is invited.


Eastbound SR 16 to close overnight starting Sunday, South Center Street to close all weekend

South Center Street under the old Nalley Valley viaduct will be closed this weekend and part of state Route 16 will be shut down for several nights as crews continue to demolish the original roadway.

South Center Street between South Pine and Wilkeson streets will close at 9 p.m. Friday and will reopen 4:30 a.m. Monday. A detour will allow access to businesses near the viaduct from South Wilkeson Street.

All eastbound lanes of state Route 16 at Union Avenue and the Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound state Route 16 will be closed from 12:30 to 7 a.m. Sunday.

Overnight closure planned on interchange connecting I-5 to SR 512

All ramps connecting Interstate 5 to state Route 512 will close overnight Thursday while state Department of Transportation crews conduct surveys.

The closures will last from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

Workers will first close the ramps from northbound I-5 to SR 512 and the ramps from both directions of SR 512 to northbound I-5. When that segment of work is complete, they will reopen the ramps to and from northbound I-5 and close on-ramps from both directions of SR 512 to southbound I-5.

Detours will be in place.


CLEARED: Tree and power lines blocking state Route 706 in both directions by Ashford, near Kernahan Road East

UPDATE as of 5 p.m. All lanes are cleared, according to WSDOT.

INITIAL POST: A tree and power lines are blocking both directions of state Route 706 at mile 10.5 near Kernahan Road East, on the edge of Ashford, according to the state Department of Transportation.

A PUD crew is on the scene. No detour is available.

The blockage was reported about 2:15 p.m., according to WSDOT.


UPDATE: All lanes of SR 162 open again after overnight crash

9:30 a.m. update: All lanes of state Route 162 have reopened.

Earlier post: An overnight crash blocked state Route 162 at South Prairie Creek for more than two hours.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m., and the highway was closed till 5 a.m. as the Washington State Patrol and emergency crews responded.

The Department of Transportation says traffic is now alternating through one lane at the scene. Puget Sound Energy crews are on site, repairing a power pole damaged in the crash.

Closures planned near 38th Street and northbound I-5 in Tacoma starting Sunday

Starting Sunday night, closures are planned for the on-ramp from 38th Street to northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews will also shut down the collector distributor lanes on northbound I-5 while raised pavement markers are installed. The markers help guide drivers with reflective bumps and shoulder lines.

Detours will be in place for eastbound state Route 16 drivers, we well as those traveling from 38th Street to northbound I-5 and northbound I-5 drivers heading to City Center.
