Tighter restrictions on Carbon River bridge

Traffic on the Carbon River bridge near Carbonado is now restricted to passenger cars only.
Concerns about the safety of the bridge led the Washington State Department of Transportation to bar commercial vehicles late Thursday afternoon.
At 9:13 p.m. WSDOT sent an updated restriction, allowing only passenger vehicles.
The restriction was prompted by the discovery that one of four legs supporting the bridge’s approach has loosened from its concrete footing.
The bridge is on State Route 165, which provides access to Mount Rainier National Park.
