Highway 16 shift complete

Traffic is flowing smoothly on the new temporary viaduct on eastbound Highway 16 this morning.

Construction crews had enough dry weather Friday night to lay down the last of the roadway striping necessary to make the traffic shift.

Now watch for demolition of the old viaduct.

Southbound I-5 lane closures scheduled for this weekend

Crews will close two lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Federal Way beginning tonight so they can work on improving drainage pipes, the state Department of Transportation reported.

The closure will begin at 8 p.m. near the state Route 161 (Enchanted Parkway) interchange. The lanes re-open by 6 a.m. Monday.

Workers will be extending an existing drainage system to help manage increased water runoff from a new series of ramps at the so-called Federal Way Triangle, where I-5, Route 161 and state Route 18 converge.

Weather puts a damper on Hwy 16 closure tonight

A planned closure for eastbound State Route 16 at Union Avenue tonight, Dec. 13,  has been cancelled due to a rainy weather forecast.

The Washington State Department of Transportation’s contractor, Mowat Construction,  has canceled tonight’s closure and rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday Dec. 14.

Weather permitting, work hours will be 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

The closure is necessary so crews can lay down new lane striping and shift traffic onto a newly-built temporary eastbound bridge.
