Tanker truck wreck snarling traffic on southbound I-5 in Fife

UPDATE: DOT report:  ”Right lane sb I-5 @ 70th has reopened. Cleanup on along the shoulder will continue till this afternoon.”

PREVIOUS POST: The Washington Department of Transportation is reporting that a tanker truck overturned on southbound Interstate 5 near 70th Avenue in Fife.

Backups are more than a mile long. Expect delays.

Gig Harbor drivers: Section of Artondale to close overnight

A section of Artondale Drive Northwest in Gig Harbor will close tonight so crews can repave the road.

The closure will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday and will stretch from Wollochet Drive Northwest to 500 feet west of the intersection.

Drivers can avoid the closure by turning onto 70th Avenue Northwest, turning left on 40th Street Northwest and continuing north on Wollochet Drive Northwest.

SR 7 in Eatonville to reopen Wednesday

A five-mile stretch of state Route 7 in Eatonville reopens Wednesday after a landslide closed the main route to Mount Rainier National Park six months ago.

State Department of Transportation officials warn that the road could close again because they made modifications rather than fix the hillside due to the cost.

“I take the safety of the traveling public very seriously. If we see any reason for concern, we will shut the road down again,” Regional Administrator Kevin Dayton said.

Road maintenance on I-5 in Lakewood means closures this week

Crews will be fixing pavement on Interstate 5 in Lakewood part of this week, which means delays for drivers between Thorne Lane and Bridgeport Way.

State Department of Transportation crews will close the right two lanes of northbound I-5 and the on-ramps to northbound I-5 between Thorne Lane and Gravelly Lake Drive during maintenance.

The closures will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Drivers are encouraged to detour onto southbound I-5 to the Berkeley exit, then get on northbound I-5.

Speeding tickets from camera at Snoqualmie Pass construction issued in mail

Drivers who sped through the work zone on Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass should expect to receive a citation in the mailbox this week.

The state Department of Transportation said the first batch of tickets from the automated speed enforcement camera was sent to 169 vehicle owners caught between Sept. 17-21. The citations are $137.
