UPDATE as of 11:01 p.m. Northbound traffic is being diverted to the City Center exit and southbound traffic is being diverted to 38th Street, according to WSDOT.

UPDATE as of 10:39 p.m. The semi lost two 20,000 pound drill casings, which damaged the center jersey barrier and knocked down a light pole, according to trooper Guy Gill. No one is injured, no other vehicles were involved, and the truck did not roll over, he said.

INITIAL POST: A semi lost some sort of debris it was carrying on Interstate 5, which caused chucks of the concrete median to spread across the freeway near the state Route 16 off ramp, according to the Washington State Patrol. The two left lanes of southbound I-5 are closed, and the left lane and part of the right lane of northbound I-5 are blocked as crews respond.

The debris also hit a light pole, the State Patrol said.

It was not immediately clear what the semi was carrying.
