More road closures in Nalley Valley this week

Several ramp and lane closures are planned this week as crews continue working on the Eastbound Nalley Valley project.

All lanes of eastbound Highway16 will be closed at Union Avenue on Monday night from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The southbound exit to South 38th Street from I-5 will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights (11 p.m. to 4 a.m.).

The Union Avenue on-ramp to eastbound Highway 16 will be closed Monday night (9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.).

And the Sprague Avenue on-ramp to westbound Highway 16 will be closed Thursday night (11 p.m. to 6 a.m.).


Lane closure on Schuster Parkway scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday

One southbound lane on Schuster Parkway will be closed Wednesday and Thursday while Tacoma city crews do maintenance.

The closure will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days and extend from North 30th Street/Ruston Way to South 4th Street.

Crews will trim ivy along the curb, do sidewalk repairs and perform general storm and ditch maintenance.


Work on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass wrapping up for the year

A few last road closures are scheduled on Interstate 90 this week as crews wrap up construction for the season.

Snoqualmie Pass will shut down from 5-6 p.m. tonight and Tuesday while state Department of Transportation workers remove loose rock from the roadway.

Officials say that should be it now that the wider westbound lanes between Hyak and Rocky Run Creek opened Friday.

The work zone should be completely gone by next month, WSDOT reports.

It was part of a $551 million project to widen a five-mile stretch of the highway from four to six lanes.

UPDATE: Collision cleared on westbound Narrows bridge

UPDATE: The Washington State Patrol reports all lanes on the bridge have reopened.

ORIGINAL POST: The Washington State Patrol is reporting a blocking collision on the westbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

The collision is at mid-span and blocking the two left lanes.

Troopers are on the scene. The collision occurred shortly before 3 p.m.

CLEARED: Jackknifed semi blocking northbound I-5 at South Yakima Avenue

UPDATE as of 7:56 p.m. Northbound traffic is getting through on the shoulder and southbound traffic is getting past the accident in one open lane and the shoulder, according the Washington State Patrol. No one was injured and no other vehicles were involved.

INITIAL POST: A jackknifed semi is blocking all lanes of northbound I-5 at South Yakima Avenue, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Some southbound lanes are blocked from debris.

CLEARED: Lanes of northbound and southbound I-5 blocked by SR 16 off ramp

UPDATE as of 11:01 p.m. Northbound traffic is being diverted to the City Center exit and southbound traffic is being diverted to 38th Street, according to WSDOT.

UPDATE as of 10:39 p.m. The semi lost two 20,000 pound drill casings, which damaged the center jersey barrier and knocked down a light pole, according to trooper Guy Gill. No one is injured, no other vehicles were involved, and the truck did not roll over, he said.

Crews begin SR 161 lighting and signage project near Eatonville, traffic will alternate through end of the year

Workers will begin adding lights and signs and re-striping about 10 miles of State Route 161 Monday between Ohop Valley Extension Road to about 304th Street East.

Traffic will alternate between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. On Fridays traffic will alternate between 9 a.m. and noon and again from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday.

The project will continue through the end of December.


Slick roads snarling traffic around South Sound

State troopers and Tacoma firefighters are reporting numerous collisions around the region as drivers lulled into complacency by more than two months of sunny weather face the grim reality of rainy weather.

Firefighters and troopers currently are responding to four wrecks in the vicinity of state Route 7 and Interstate 5.

State troopers report they’ve investigated 14 collisions in Pierce and Thurston counties this morning as compared to four yesterday.
