Sounder commuter rail service to South Tacoma and Lakewood will begin Monday, Oct. 8, Sound Transit officials announced today.

To celebrate the start of service, Sound Transit will hold a public ribbon-cutting event on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Lakewood, South Tacoma and Tacoma Dome stations.

Free rides on the Sounder train will be offered to the public, along with other festivities.

Now the Traffic nightmares on 56Th Street and South Tacoma Way can start.

During testing, 10 minute waits were not uncommon

  2. I would have liked to have taken a ride on the first train out of Lakewood on the 8th but the departure times are too early and the return times too late.
Oh well! What time are they holding the ribbon cutting ceremony on the 6th?

@moiraz-Since there are no weekend service times (other than Seahawks games and one train for Mariners games on Sundays), I am guessing that it will be weekday times on Oct. 6th (a Saturday). I don’t see any times on the website for the ribbon cutting ceremony. You can go to the Sound Transit website (soundtransit.org) and e-mail them with your question. My past experience with them has been a very fast and informative response.

This is listed under the TNT as Slowdown Lowdown.

In other words Sound Transit did nothing alleviate traffic bottle anywhere.

  6. TNT and Tim Eyman don’t like public transportation.
