Sound Transit says test trains will be on the new tracks between Lakewood and Tacoma’s Freighthouse Square as early as next Wednesday, Aug. 8.

Testing the tracks and road crossings will take several weeks. Passengers will be able to ride the train starting about Oct. 1, Sound Transit says. That date could change depending on the results of the testing.

All I can say is it’s about time. Lakewood taxpayers have been paying for this train service since 1998. It’s hard to believe that with all the lawsuits, redesigns, more lawsuits and other issues that we’ll finally have Sounder service from Lakewood.
