A second new flyover ramp connecting eastbound state Route 18 and northbound Interstate 5 in Federal Way opened this afternoon.

The state Department of Transportation opened the first flyover ramp last Monday, connecting westbound SR 18 to northbound I-5.

The new ramps are estimated to carry 32,000 vehicles each day and reduce backups and collisions. They replace an interchange built in the 1960s and are part of a $112 million project at the interchange.

Crews will begin knocking down the old ramps next month.
