The first new flyover ramp in Federal Way opens today.

The ramp connects westbound state Route 18 to southbound Interstate 5. A second flyover ramp connecting eastbound SR 18 and northbound I-5 is slated to open July 23.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. The state Department of Transportation said a semitruck will be the first vehicle to use the new ramp, which will then open to all drivers.

The ramps, which are opening six months ahead of schedule, are part of a $112 million project to improve the traffic and safety at the interchange.

    A long time coming.

  2. But I see you can’t yet get to Enchanted Parkway so it isn’t fully open yet.

Yay, no more 60-MPH weave! Thank you DOT.

Drove it yesterday. Other than the semi taking the corner at 25mph it was very easy to merge at speed onto I-5.

I do like the flyover better than playing ‘cloverleaf chicken’ with the exiters.
