Drivers heading through Stevens Pass on Tuesday should expect delays as crews intermittently close lanes to remove large boulders poised to fall on the highway.
Contractor crews working for MidWest Rockfall Inc. found big rocks on the unstable slope west of the Stevens Pass summit, and officials said they could possibly break through the concrete barriers and reach the road.
On Tuesday, all lanes on U.S. Highway 2 will intermittently close from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for rock removal.
The closures will last 10 minutes, according to the state Department of Transportation. Westbound traffic will be stopped at the summit and eastbound traffic will be halted at the Iron Goat Interpretive Center near Scenic.
