Drivers using the state Route 520 floating bridge this evening should expect delays while crossing Lake Washington.

The state Department of Transportation will be opening the bridge at 7 p.m. to allow a 55-foot sailboat to pass through. Half hour delays are to be expected.

Vessels taller than 45 feet cannot fit under the west highrise of the floating bridge, WSDOT said. The east highrise channel is closed for construction of the new SR 520 bridge.

Boats taller than 45 feet can request a drawspan opening with two hours’ notice from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, according to Coast Guard rules. Vessels cannot pass through between 6-9 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Electronic message signs are posted to warn drivers of the drawspan opening. Alternate routes are available, including Interstates 90 and 405 and state Route 552.
