UPDATED: Avalanche control closes both directions of I-90 in Snoqualmie Pass

UPDATE at 6:25 p.m. Eastbound lanes are now open.

UPDATE at 6:10 p.m. The westbound lanes are now open. Work continues on the eastbound lanes.

INITIAL POST: Both directions of Interstate 90 in Snoqualmie Pass are closed for avalanche control work, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The lanes closed at 5:30 p.m. It’s unknown when they will reopen.

Eastbound traffic is stopped at milepost 56 near Gold Creek. Westbound traffic is stopped at milepost 61 near Price Creek.

ALL CLEAR: Collision at Tacoma Dome blocks two southbound I-5 lanes

UPDATE at 5:03: All lanes are now open to traffic but a six mile backup remains, according to WSDOT.

INITIAL POST: A collision on southbound Interstate 5 at the Tacoma Dome is causing backups, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Two right lanes are blocked. State troopers are on scene at the collision, which occurred at 3:35 p.m. at milepost 133.

Backups extend six miles, WSDOT reports.

UPDATED: Avalanche control under way on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass

UPDATED at 8:08 a.m.

State DOT crews have closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 across Snoqualmie Pass this morning for avalanche control work.

The work began about 7:45 a.m. Eastbound drivers are stopped near Gold Creek. Westbound drivers are not impacted.

There’s no estimated time for the pass to be reopened to traffic.

“Due to the nature of this type of work an estimate of opening time cannot be made until after the avalanche control effort takes place,” DOT reported. “Once the amount of snow that comes down is determined, an estimated time of opening will be provided.”

UPDATED: Icy roads greet morning commuters

UPDATED at 6:10 a.m.

The area’s wet roads froze up overnight, leaving patches of black ice that are causing problems this morning.

State Department of Transportation crews have been working overnight to treat the icy roadways.

Commuters are asked to drive carefully and for the conditions.

“Plan for extra time this morning, and take it slow,” the state Department of Transportation tweeted. “Low temps and wet roads=ice.”

Several crashes have been reported already this morning.

A pickup truck hit a barrier on eastbound state Route 16 on the Narrows Bridge. (It has since been cleared.) Another crash was blocking one

ALL CLEAR: Collision blocking off-ramp from SR 18 to SR 167 in Auburn

UPDATE at 4:55 p.m.: All lanes are now open, WSDOT reports.

INITIAL: A collision is blocking the eastbound off-ramp from state Route 18 to northbound state Route 167 in Auburn, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The collision was reported at 4:30 p.m. State troopers and a tow truck are on scene.

ALL CLEAR: Snoqualmie Pass closed this morning for avalanche control work

UPDATE as of 1:19 p.m. Both directions of I-90 have reopened to traffic.

UPDATED at 7:50 a.m. State transportation crews have closed down both directions of Interstate 90 this morning for avalanche control work on Snoqualmie Pass.

The highway shut down at 7:30 a.m. Eastbound drivers are stopped near Denny Creek. Westbound drivers are stopped near the summit, DOT reports.

It is unknown when I-90 will reopen.
