UPDATE, 1:30 P.M.: The Department of Transportation says that SR 161 is now open to traffic. The power lines and tree debris that blocked the road were cleared just after 1 p.m. Sunday.

DOT tweeted that SR 161 still has some shoulder restrictions due to trees and debris being moved out of the roadway. Drivers are advised to use caution in the area.

Earlier post: Fallen trees and power lines continue blocking state Route 161, also known as Meridian East, between Clear Lake Road South and Webster Road, the state Department of Transportation reports.

Local access is permitted along that stretch of road, but other drivers should stay away until power crews can clear the roadway of any hazards, DOT said.

We will post updates as soon as they are available.
