UPDATED at 3:10 p.m.

Traffic is backed up more than two miles on state Route 16 in Gig Harbor after a man crashed into the back of an SUV this afternoon.

The crash is blocking two lanes of westbound 16 at Olympic Drive.

Troopers report that someone called 911 shortly before 12:50 p.m. and reported that a white car was driving erratically on the highway. About the same time, a Gig Harbor police officer got behind the white car and tried to initiate a stop, trooper Guy Gill said.

The driver didn’t pull over and slammed into the back of an SUV. The causing driver was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment, Gill said.

The driver of the SUV and two children in the car suffered minor injuries.

The causing driver was under investigation for drunken driving. Gill reported that he had no driver’s license.

I feel for the victims who we’re rear ended by this moron. They’ll be sore for quite some time. Thank goodness they weren’t seriously injured and I hope for a speedy recovery for them.

Freaktard….made me late for dinner. Speeding is one thing. An accident is another. When someone does something purposeful like this, there should be no mercy and no plea bargaining on the felony. This jerk cost thousands of people many thousands of minutes and dollars.

Thank you skippythedog! Couldn’t have said it better myself! Luckily for me I was able to jump off on Olympic just as the ambulance was coming. Freaktard! Love it!

  5. I went by there eastbound four hours after accident. Westbound was still pretty much shut down. The wrecked cars were gone, road was cleaned up, no fatalities but they were still out there with their tripods and measuring tapes blocking all traffic. Does anyone know the purpose of this?

MCM- there are hundreds of thousands of people here who have never been a cop, but are experts in police procedure and policy. I’m sure one of them will have an answer for you.
