Update, 9:23 a.m.: The man killed in this morning’s crash has been identified as 29-year-old Michael J. Iverson of Gig Harbor.
“Speed was a big factor in this morning’s fatality collision on SR-302,” Trooper Guy Gill wrote on Twitter. “It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were involved.”
Update, 8:50 a.m.: According to the Washington State Patrol, a 29-year-old Gig Harbor man was killed in the crash. He was driving a 1995 BMW M3, which left the roadway and struck a tree.
A State Patrol spokesman said that speed is a factor in the crash.
All lanes of SR302 were reopened around 8:45 a.m.
Earlier post: An accident in which a car struck a tree is blocking all lanes of state Route 302 near Purdy this morning.
The crash occurred just after 5 a.m. near 118th Avenue on SR 302.
The Washington State Patrol, an Incident Response Team and fire crew are on scene. Traffic is being detoured around the site. Drivers should expect delays and seek alternate routes, the Department of Transportation said.
