The busy ramp from westbound state Route 18 to northbound Interstate 5 is set to be closed from 5 a.m. Monday until Sept. 1.

According to the state Department of Transportation:

A 2.5-mile detour will send drivers onto northbound state Route 99 to South 320th Street. Drivers coming from Auburn can use northbound state Route 167 and westbound state Route 516 to reach I-5.

During the closure, crews will demolish the westbound state Route 18 to northbound I-5 ramp, and move, raise and reopen it less than 100 yards away. When it reopens, the entrance will be farther east on state Route 18, making room for a future flyover ramp between westbound state Route 18 and southbound I-5.

Beginning Sept. 1, westbound vehicles coming from Weyerhaeuser Way will have access only to northbound I-5. The Weyerhaeuser Way to westbound state Route 18 on-ramp closed May 31.

The work is part of a $112 million project to ease congestion and improve safety at the interchange.

Wow it’s about time. I have driven this route the last 5 years. What a Nightmare to merge with I5. It was like trying to cram an Elephant through a Straw.
