The first of four weekend closures on the Interstate 5 Clover Creek Bridge near Lakewood starts Friday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews will close the northbound lanes, northbound on-ramp at Gravelly Lake Boulevard and the northbound off-ramp to Bridgeport Way about 9 a.m. By midnight, three lanes will shut down and traffic will be restricted to a single lane.

The lanes will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday, only to close again at midnight and reopen again Sunday morning.

About 141,000 people drive this section of I-5 daily, WSDOT said. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area while repairs to the bridge decks are made for the $650,000 project.
