The Milroy Bridge over the Puyallup River will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, for a structural inspection.

The state Department of Transportation and Pierce County Public Works and Utilities inspect the steel truss bridge every other year to ensure it is safe for the 11,000 vehicles that use it daily.

During the closure, crews will also finish concrete deck repairs.

The bridge was built in 1931 and connects state Route 167/River Road East with North Levee Road East at 66th Avenue East.

Bridge schematics and images for George Milroy Bridge.

It bears the Anglo name of a Native American resident who farmed in the Puyallup Valley.

  2. Thank you for helping those of us who are historically deprived. While getting over this particular bridge can be somewhat annoying during rush hour, it is like traveling back in time. When I go over it, I remember that at one point in the past the bridge wasn’t so narrow.

Only a matter of time before it’s replaced. A new one is needed, but it certainly is an historical time piece. I will miss it.

  4. got their dates screwed up, its closed on the 31st, signs all over the place
