Pavement replacement means road closure in Auburn

Crews are beginning work Tuesday in the area of E Street Northeast in Auburn and drivers should expect delays for the next two weeks.

E Street Northeast between East Main Street and 3rd Street Northeast will be closed to northbound traffic and 3rd Street Northeast to 4th Street Northeast will be closed to all traffic.

The 2010 Local Street Pavement Preservation project calls for damaged cement concrete panels to be replaced in the street.


UPDATED: Car hits pole, blocks SR 162 in Orting

A car has hit a utility pole, blocking both directions of state Route 162 between South Prairie Creek and Arline Road in Orting, the state DOT reports.

The incident was reported about 9:50 a.m. Monday.

Troopers and transportation crews were headed to the scene.

UPDATE as of 2:05 p.m.: The crash continues to block eastbound SR 162. Westbound traffic is making it through the area. Eastbound drivers are being detoured onto South Prairie Carbon River Road, DOT reports.

The closure is expected to continue through the rest of the afternoon.

Question: Jerry Brandfas of Parkland has a question about the new paid parking system in downtown Tacoma. “Can vehicles with disabled permits park free in the paid parking sections of Tacoma?” he asks.

Collision blocks northbound I-5 at Puyallup River Bridge

A collision is blocking the two center lanes on northbound Interstate 5 at the Puyallup River Bridge, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Construction is blocking the right lane. Drivers are getting by in the left lane but traffic is backed up more than a mile to McKinley Way.



All clear: Crash blocks lanes of Interstate 5 near South 72nd Street in Tacoma

Update, 10:57 a.m.: The crash has been cleared from Interstate 5. All lanes of the highway are open. Traffic is backed up for about 2 miles, the Department of Transportation reports.

The Department of Transportation did not have information about any of the injuries.

Update, 10:28 a.m.: A crash involving a rolled-over vehicle is blocking the three left lanes of Interstate 5 in Tacoma. The accident occurred around 9:50 a.m. just south of the South 72nd Street exit.
