Traffic backed up on I-5 in Tacoma after truck loses load

UPDATE: All lanes of northbound I-5 at the Puyallup River Bridge are open to traffic.

However, backups on northbound I-5 extend to 38th Street. Drivers are also experiencing backups from I-705 to northbound I-5.

The Washington State Patrol and state Department of Transportation incident response crews are one scene.

Initial post: The state Department of Transportation reports that at truck lost its trailer on northbound I-5 at the Puyallup River Bridge.

As of 12:15 p.m., three lanes are blocked. Backups are to 38th Street in Tacoma.

Closures on SR 16 this week for Nalley Valley project

Crews that will place concrete for the new $184 million westbound Nalley Valley project will close both directions of state Route 16 this week.

Eastbound lanes will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday. Detours will be from Union Street to 38th Street to Interstate 5.

Westbound lanes will close nightly through Saturday when the I-5 ramps shut down for construction.

Both directions from I-5 to westbound SR 16 will close from midnight to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The off-ramp from southbound I-5 to westbound SR 16 closes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday-Friday.

Work suspended for winter on SR 410 widening project

A project to add two lanes to state Route 410 in Bonney Lake is halting for the winter but it will not affect the completion date to wait for drier weather in the spring, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Crews have been working since March on the $20.5 million project that widens about 1.5 miles of freeway in each direction between 214th and 234th avenues.

About 20,000 vehicles travel on that section of road each day, according to WSDOT.

Seattle’s 520 bridge will close overnight for 5 weeks

From The Associated Press:

The Evergreen Point floating bridge across Lake Washington is going to be closed overnight for five weeks, starting Monday.

The state Transportation Department says crews are installing equipment for electronic tolling on the state Route 520 bridge. It requires them to close the bridge from midnight to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday until the work is completed in February. In addition, Friday and Saturday overnight closures will start the weekend of Jan. 21.

The bridge is a major route between Seattle and the suburbs east of the lake.

Backup at Tacoma Narrows Bridge for suicide

UPDATE: Authorities are trying to recover the body of a 52-year-old Gig Harbor man who jumped off the eastbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge tonight.

Police tried to coax the man off the ledge but he struggled with them before jumping, said Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

INITIAL POST: All lanes of eastbound state Route 16 at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge are blocked by police, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Officials say there is a man on the bridge threatening to jump.
