Water line work to partially close Auburn street

A water line on 3rd Street Northeast in Auburn between Auburn Way North and D Street Northeast is scheduled to be replaced this week.

City officials say the westbound lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday while the work is performed.

Eastbound lanes will remain open but drivers are warned that delays are expected.

UPDATED: Vehicle fire closes two lanes on I-5 in Lakewood

UPDATED, 9:56 a.m.:  All lanes of northbound I-5 near Berkeley are clear. Expect delays until backup dissipates.

POSTED EARLIER: A vehicle fire still blocks the two right lanes on northbound Interstate 5 at the Berkeley Exit in Lakewood, the Washington State Department of Transportation reports.

Motorists in the area should expect delays.

Washington State Patrol and fire units are on scene.

Two injured in school bus crash in Gig Harbor

A Toyota truck and a school bus collided in Gig Harbor this afternoon, injuring one student and a passenger in the truck.

The truck and bus were traveling east on state Route 302 about 2:30 p.m. when the bus stopped for traffic at 144th Street Northwest and the truck ran into it, according to the State Patrol.

One of the 37 children on board the bus sustained minor injuries.

A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Toyota was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital after he complained of neck and back pain.

UPDATE: West Valley Highway in Sumner to remain closed overnight

UPDATE: Sumner officials say the West Valley Highway in Sumner will remain closed overnight because small mudslides are still occurring in the area.

Earlier, they had estimated that the highway would reopen at 4:30 p.m.

INITIAL POST: The West Valley Highway in Sumner is expected to reopen about 4:30 p.m., nearly a dozen hours after an early morning mudslide shut down the road from 24th Street on the north to Sumner Heights Drive on the south.
