Update No. 4 at 1:30 p.m.: DOT says Highway 512 in Puyallup is backed up for about 12 miles. Traffic also is clogged westbound from Meridian Street east onto Highway 167 to Pacific, and east from Meridian Street to Canyon Road.

UPDATE No. 3 at 11:30 a.m.: State Route 509 from Portland Avenue to the Puyallup River Bridge is closed.

23rd Avenue and Shaw Road in Puyallup is temporarily closed while accident is cleared.

UPDATE 2: DOT is advising drivers to avoid both directions of state Route 16 between Tacoma and Gig Harbor. There are multiple disabled vehicles and spinouts along the stretch.

This just in from DOT:

Multiple spinouts and a jack-knifed semi truck are being reported in the Jackson Avenue vicinity.  Multiple spinouts are also being reported in Gig Harbor.

It’s getting nasty out on the roadways.

A four-car crash is blocking the left lane of westbound state Route 16 at Purdy near Gig Harbor, the state DOT reports.

There are also reports of crashes on state Route 512. Tacoma fire has advised its rigs to chain up.
