Pierce County advises Frederickson area drivers of a major closure of 176th Street East over the next week. Here’s the scoop from the county:

Part of 176th St. E closed for construction

Drivers in the Frederickson area should expect detours and delays for the next few days along 176th Street East.

The road is closed between Canyon Road and 38th Avenue East to allow the contractor, Goodfellow Brothers, to perform excavation and embankment work. Weather permitting, the road will reopen by Thursday, Oct. 28.

Traffic in the area is being detoured on 192nd and 200th Streets East. Long delays are expected during morning and evening commute hours. The Pierce County Public Works and Utilities department encourages drivers to use alternate routes or give themselves extra time to make it through the detour.

“We appreciate the public’s patience while we improve this important roadway,” said Brian Ziegler, Public Works and Utilities director.  “The closure, while disruptive to traffic, saves time and money for construction.”

Public Works and Utilities mailed postcards and letters to area residents and businesses to alert them to this closure. Drivers are invited to sign up for e-mail notification of closures and project updates via the project website: www.piercecountywa.org/fredericksonarea.

A map of the project and detour area is available with the online version of this story: http://www.piercecountywa.org/cfapps/internet/news.cfm?node_id=107745
