All lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma will be closed two nights this week as crews work to piece together a new bridge for the state Route 16 Nalley Valley project.

The first closure is from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday. The second will be 11 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday, the state DOT announced today.

The southbound lanes will be closed near the SR 16 interchange. Detour signs will be in place for drivers.

During the closures, crews will bring in large cranes and install precast concrete sections onto a bridge from northbound I-5 to westbound SR 16. The work is part of the $184 million SR 16 Westbound Nalley Valley project.
