Tacos al fresco? Ricos Tacos returns and two new buses are in Puyallup

Ricos Tacos has returned to its Center Street location.

An accident led to the temporary closure of Ricos Tacos, a new and promising taco bus that opened earlier this year on the edge of Fircrest at 5015 S. Center St.,Tacoma. Yesterday, the bus returned to its home in the 76 Station parking lot – the sunny weather is long gone and so is the prime time taco truck season, but that didn’t stop customers from dropping by for tacos. Speaking of unseasonable taco truck weather, I spotted a few new buses in downtown Puyallup earlier this month. It’s not exactly al fresco dining season, but I’m always a fan of tacos, even during sideways rain. Read on. Read more »

Taco Roundup 2012: A listing of South Sound taco trucks

Some of the South Sound’s best taquerias are on wheels. While Vuelva a la Vida and Tacos Guaymas remain my favorite brick-and-morter taquerias for the freshest Mexican fast food in town, taco trucks have taken over as my go-to eateries for fast-service tortas, tacos and burritos.

What kept the other nine trucks from my top five was that they lacked decent seating or skimped on freebies such as pickled carrots, radishes and salsa. In some cases, meats were dry or the execution was a bit off. Nevertheless, I’ve listed those trucks at the end of this blog post. Also, don’t forget to check out the map. Read more »

Dine in the sun: New taco trucks in Tacoma, Orting and Puyallup

A trio of tacos from Sonia's on Sixth Avenue in Tacoma.

What pairs well with unseasonably hot Northwest weather? Taco trucks. Usually it’s June or July before we get weather conducive to al fresco burrito dining, but our current stretch means two things: You must put on sun screen and you must go eat a taco outdoors. I have interesting news to report – two new taco trucks have popped up in unexpected South Sound neighborhoods. One is near Fircrest next to the Lowe’s, and the other is in sleepy downtown Orting. There also have been taco truck change-ups in Puyallup and Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue neighborhood. Read more »
