A week of suds: Tacoma Beer Week begins Monday

In true Tacoma fashion, brewing a special-release beer for Tacoma Beer Week percolated over a pint (or three).

Two brewers invited another to help. Another brewer pitched in. And then another and another. The idea was to gather as many Tacoma brewers as possible to collaborate on a beer that would do something every Tacoma brewer wants: Get more people to drink Tacoma-brewed beer.

In all, brewers from seven Tacoma breweries — including one that isn’t yet open — collaborated on Tacoma Neo Noir, a Belgian-style black IPA brewed for Tacoma Beer Week, which begins Monday and includes events and special beer releases at Tacoma breweries and taverns known for their craft tap selections (find a partial schedule below, but more events are at ­facebook.com/­tacomabeerweek). Puyallup dining – finding a few gems in a community short on dining options

The Puyallup area is home to duplicate chain restaurants large and small. Occasionally a bright spot appears in the form of a dining gem. Consider Puyallup River Alehouse such a development. With 24 taps featuring a wide range of craft beer, it’s a much-needed destination for East Pierce County.

Puyallup River Brewing will open an alehouse in downtown Puyallup

After less than a year in business, Puyallup River Brewing is expanding from a garage brewery to an alehouse that will open in downtown Puyallup sometime in January.

Owner-brewer Eric Akeson plans a 2,000-square-foot alehouse that will tap local craft beers as well as the beers he brews in his backyard South Hill brewery, which he will keep as the headquarters for his brewing operation. Read more »

Coming soon to stores: Puyallup River Brewing Company

Next week, a brewery so small that it’s called a nano-brewery will join a small, but growing, pocket of South Sound craft brewers. Puyallup River Brewing Company will begin offering three of its brews by the bottle at the Tacoma Boys store in Puyallup.
