Today is the final day of Oktoberfest Northwest – a three-day celebration of beer, brats and German dancing and singing. I checked in at the festival yesterday afternoon at the Puyallup Fairgrounds Showplex. Today is a great day to go because admission is half-price all day - $5 gets you in. Kids are welcome all day today. Oh, and the food? They nailed it this year.

Beer, brats and wiener dogs – it’s a weird combination, but it’s what makes the Oktoberfest Northwest such a freakishly interesting collision of culture and food. Beer and brats are served all weekend, the wiener dog races are Sunday only.

I thought not. Oktoberfests big and small are planned this weekend and next throughout the South Sound. They’re festivals celebrating German beer and food – held in conjunction with the weeks-long Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the world’s largest fair devoted to beer.
