My teeth chattered and I winced at taking my hands out of my pockets to fetch my credit card. Such is life for a hired belly researching mobile food businesses in January. In January? Yeah. January. Although most of us think of May-October as the more sane food truck season, plenty of trucks and carts operate year round in South Sound. Yesterday, I wrote about Jay Dogs, a hot dog cart that set …

Center St.,Tacoma. Yesterday, the bus returned to its home in the 76 Station parking lot – the sunny weather is long gone and so is the prime time taco truck season, but that didn’t stop customers from dropping by for tacos. Speaking of unseasonable taco truck weather, I spotted a few new buses in downtown Puyallup earlier this month. It’s a flattened meat pie stuffed with a filling so tasty, you know it’s going to be Defcon Level Unhealthy. Try not to think about that as you order three. It’s a dish with farflung European origins – Russian and German.
Tacoma has food trucks and carts aplenty, but there's no central meetup spot for trucks to gather - until now. Tacoma's first mobile food meetup will be Sunday at Cheney Stadium. The event is free except for the cost of food. Trucks will serve everything from Southern to Filipino, from Greek to Mexican, from fried meat pies to fry bread, from ice pops to cupcakes.

Moveable Feast organizers checked in this week with an update of Tacoma’s first mobile food meetup on July 29 at Cheney Stadium. I was impressed to see more than half of the 35 vendors will be South Sound mobile food vendors, catering stands or local restaurants. That’s a big increase from the short list organizers had initially booked when the event was announced in early June.

For background, read this June 7 blog post, but the quick and dirty highlights are this: The event is organized by Alyson Jones, director of media and events for the Tacoma Rainiers. …
