Brew alert. There are now two beer festivals planned for Tacoma in October.

The Washington Beer Commission sent an email to brewers advising them to save Oct. 18 for the South Sound IPA Festival at Union Station. According to the email, the festival will have two sessions – at noon and 5:30 p.m. – with 24 Washington brewers attending.

And if you haven’t heard already, there’s another beer festival in Tacoma Oct. 4. Yachtoberfest will be a fundraiser for the Tacoma Waterfront Association. More than a dozen brewers will serve. More details on both beer festivals below.

Here’s an email that’s circulating among brewers for the Oct. 18 South Sound IPA Festival at Union Station:

Dear Washington Brewery,

The Washington Beer Commission is proud to present a brand new tasting festival this fall! The inaugural South Sound IPA Festival will take place on Saturday, October 18th at Union Station in Tacoma. This intimate event will feature 24 Washington breweries pouring 50+ IPA’s during two sessions of 750 attendees each. The 1st session will run Noon to 4:00pm and the second session from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.

To register for this event, you will receive a separate email with complete event details and the online registration link at 2pm on Monday, September 8th. Please follow the instructions in that email to register. Brewery registration will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis until the event is full.

We’re looking forward to our first event in the South Sound region! If you have any immediate questions, please let us know.

Yachtoberfest Details

This Foss waterway beer festival with a boating theme has just over a dozen brewers serving at the Oct. 4 event and that lineup includes South Sound brewers 7 Seas, Odd Otter, Northwest Brewing, Harmon and Wingman. Three wineries also will pour. The event runs noon-6 p.m. and is boater friendly with moorage available. Find more details here and here. Tickets are truly affordable – $12, and the event is for attendees 21 and older only. The festival takes place behind the Museum of Glass and will have food from Foss waterway restaurants, including Social, Choripan and Paesan. That’s a mighty fine weekend for eating and brews – that’s also the weekend for the St. Nicholas Greek Festival and Oktoberfest Northwest.
