From the annual barley wine festival this weekend at Tacoma’s Parkway Tavern to a group of hard peddling guys from Harmon Brewery – here’s a report of beer happenings from today through May.
Tip: Save the date for the Gig Harbor Beer Festival in May.
Harmon Brewing Earth Day, all day today
This event features beer moved by bicyles and a focus on ecology. Check this out:
2-5:30 p.m.: Kegs of beer will start at the Hub Gig Harbor and be transported via bicycle across the Narrows Bridge. The caravan will meet up with a 16-seat rolling bar, powered by cyclists, at South 25th and State Streets at 3:30 p.m., and will head down Martin Luther King Way to the Harmon Tap Room in the St. Helens neighborhood.
6 p.m.: A planting party at the new Harmon Garden below the Tacoma Hub in St. Helens invites gardeners to bring a small bedding plant to plant in the garden adjacent to the Harmon Tap Room (it’s just below the Hub).
6-8 p.m.: Several eco-focused brewers will pour their beers at Harmon Tap Room.

Fans of barley wine rejoice, it’s the spring awakening of the Parkway Tavern’s annual ode to the strongly flavored beer. More than 30 barley wines will be on tap beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday. The tap list includes vintage selections as well as new finds. The event is free, other than the cost of brew and food. Murphy’s Barbecue is providing the eats. Check out the taplist from Parkway barkeep Sean Jackson below.
