Pictured here are chocolate covered eggs, a chocolate covered marshmallow Peep and chocolate covered peanut butter smidgens. An assortment of Easter candy is available at Johnson Candy in Tacoma, but stock is limited to what’s on hand.

I got smart and shopped earlier this week at the Johnson Candy Company for some Easter chocolate. I’ve had my cream eggs and solid chocolate bunnies for three days (and have managed to resist ripping into the foil and devouring them all). Have you bought yours? Here’s a last-minute guide to buying local for those Easter goodies.

Johnson Candy Co.

924 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma; 253-272-8504
Handmade cream eggs at $3.25 each and an assortment of chocolate bunnies – from tiny to a size bigger than anyone should try to eat. The best part? Samples. This Hilltop emporium has been selling chocolates for more than 50 years. If you have not yet visited, you need to fix that immediately.

Fife: 3500 20th St. E., Fife; 253-620-3030. brown-haley.com
Find Almond Roca and other candy from Tacoma-based Brown & Haley at two retail locations – one in Fife and another in the Tacoma Dome neighborhood where the factory is located. Year-round, find a variety of candies made by the company, including Mountain Bars. You’ll find “factory misses” at bargain prices; but also well-priced tins.

Madyson’s Marshmallows

Madame Hatter, 921 Kincaid Ave., Sumner; 253-826-8888
Find dipped and other marshmallows at Madame Hatter in downtown Sumner. The treats are made by Sumner company Madyson’s Marshmallows. You might also find the marshmallows at the Tea Madame Tea Shop at Windmill Nursery.

Find Edie Rahlf’s chocolate truffles anytime during French Hen’s operating hours. I’d advise calling ahead to make sure her chocolates are in stock.

Emily’s Chocolates/AMES International

Where: 4401 Industry Drive E., Fife; 253-235-4866, emilyschocolates.com
This international company based in Fife is known for its gourmet chocolate-dipped fortune cookies and other nut-based and chocolate confections. It operates a Fife retail store where shoppers can find the high-end items typically sold only through upscale businesses.

Tacoma Boys Fudge

Where: 5602 Sixth Ave., Tacoma; 253-756-0902, tacomaboys.com
Offered in a variety of flavors, the fudge is made at the Tacoma store. A daily selection is available, but custom orders are taken, too.
