The taproom and bottle store Copper Door expects to be open sometime this week in the Stadium neighborhood. Owner Craig Moore was expecting the last of his permit approvals to be issued this week.

The bottle shop will be at 12 N. Tacoma Avenue (next to Gibson’s Frozen Yogurt).

Moore has a background in craft beer in Portland. He’s originally from Tennessee, but moved to Portland to put his industrial design degree to use. He moved to Tacoma at the urging of a friend who had already moved here.

His 2,600 square foot corner location will be portioned into a taproom taking up about two-thirds of the space and a bottle shop for the other third. He plans 24 rotating taps and intends to start with about 750 bottled brews in a refrigerated case, but hopes to expand to 1,000 craft bottles.

The opening makes that stretch of Stadium a bonafide beer destination. Nearby Tacoma Wine Merchants has a great selection of beer by the bottle or on tap. The Harmon’s Hub and Taproom and Doyle’s are a few blocks away and Tacoma Brewing Co. a few blocks beyond that.
