The national chain Wingstop has a location planned near Tacoma Mall. This marks the first South Sound location for the 600-restaurant chain with Washington locations in Bellevue and Eastern Washington. It’s starting to look like a slightly more crowded wing market – locally owned Flying Boots and Wings plans to open in the next few weeks. That made-over Lincoln neighborhood haunt plans to open with a menu of wings.
Wingstop anticipates a May opening at 2505 S. 38th St. near the mall – in the space that formerly held Quizno’s. Expect a menu of wings and boneless chicken in 11 flavor choices. The restaurant’s menu reads similar to Buffalo Wild Wings, the national chain that has opened outposts in Tacoma and Puyallup since October 2011.
As for Flying Boots and the Spur Room, an opening should happen in the next week or two at 614 S. 38th St. That bar is a made-over entity, a 75-year neighborhood staple that closed in 2013. New owners, who also own a bar in Renton, have shifted the floor plan, but kept old decor elements, such as the tabletop jukeboxes. The eatery and bar will be for diners 21 and older now.
Flying Boots will specialize in wings. About a dozen configurations will be on the menu in order sizes of 6, 12 and 24. Sauce choices range from the typical buffalo to chipotle and extra spicy; Thai peanut, butter garlic and sweet chili sauce also will be options. Wings can be ordered without sauce or breading; or they can come coated in a habanero coating. There’s also boneless wings. Find more opening information on the bar’s Facebook page.
