Fans of Ayothaya will have another outpost to visit in the Puyallup area. The South Hill Thai restaurant intends to duplicate itself in the Canyon Crossing Center in Frederickson. The restaurant expects an opening sometime in the spring of 2014.
Ayothaya has operated for more than a decade in South Hill. The restaurant is a treasure in a sea of chain restaurants. Located in the center of the bustling Meridian shopping area, Ayothaya sits in an unassuming strip mall that appears as if it will be gobbled by a larger strip mall behind it. I applauded Ayothaya in this review last year for its lovely decor. Visitors will find a lobby outfitted with leggy bamboo that unfolds to a dining room filled with ornate artwork. Dig into classic Thai dishes and you’ll find high quality ingredients with sharp presentations. (For a first visit, get the larb and green curry). The prices are lower than what you’d expect, which makes it an even better find. Find Ayothaya at 4102 S. Meridian, 253-841-7599.
The second Ayothaya will be at 5604 176th St. E. An owner noted by phone today that the restaurant wouldn’t open until late spring, at the earliest. He said the Frederickson restaurant will be very similar to the South Hill location, but with minor menu modifications.
