Boxcar Grill closed nearly two weeks ago after a fire at the Sixth Avenue diner. The Ale House Pub & Eatery is still working on its reopening after a two-alarm fire damaged the University Place eatery July 12.  When are they back in business? Here are updates.

Boxcar Grill
The Oct. 16 fire at Boxcar Grill was isolated to the front dining counter and didn’t cause much damage – it was water from the overhead sprinklers that created a mess that buckled the paneling on the walls.

Owner Liz Gilham, who operates the restaurant with her mother Velda, said a contractor should be out this week to begin repairs after a crew finishes the clean-up. She’s not sure about a reopening date, but was hopeful November was a possibility.  Find out more at the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Craig Dickens, who manages the daily operations at The Ale House in University Place, said permits have delayed the reopening of the pub after its July kitchen fire. Wrote Dickens by email, “Unfortunately the process has taken way longer than anybody anticipated. Initially we were given a time frame of approximately three months. However due to various circumstances we’re still waiting on permitting. Once issued we’re still facing an approximate three month time frame for repairs.”
