A Seattle-based pizza chain is opening its first South Sound outposts in Puyallup and Tacoma. Expect a late June opening for Mod Super Fast Pizza in Puyallup’s Sunrise Village. A Tacoma Mall Mod is expected to open sometime in September.
Mod, which stands for “Made On Demand,” has eight stores – four in Seattle, three in Seattle’s Eastside and one in Lynnwood.
The fast-casual restaurant serves individually sized pizzas – with every pizza priced $6.88, whether or not diners order a specialty pie or build their own from a menu of 25 toppings. The pizzas are stone-baked and the crust is described as a thin and crispy – Neapolitan style pie. Dough and sauce are made fresh.
Company spokeswoman Charlotte Wayte shared a bit of the back story of founders Scott and Ally Svenson, Seattle natives. The couple moved to London for Scott’s job in finance and when they couldn’t find a coffee stand, they opened one. They built Seattle Coffee Company to 65 stores in London, then Starbucks came knocking. They sold their stores, which Starbucks rebranded as their own, and moved back to Seattle. They founded Mod in 2008.
