The new home for My Greek, which is moving from its Meridian home to Sunrise Village, also in South Hill.

My Greek, a restaurant that operated for five years in Puyallup’s South Hill, has found a new home – in two locations. One is in Sunrise Village, not far from the original Puyallup location, the other is in Tacoma’s Westgate neighborhood.

Owner Nader Morcos said he is estimating a December opening for the Westgate restaurant and a January opening for the Puyallup My Greek, which will be taking over the space formerly occupied by the conveyor belt sushi restaurant, Sushi Station. In Westgate, the restaurant will operate at the old Shari’s, 2303 N. Pearl St.

Morcos opened My Greek in 2007 as part of the Canadian-based Mr. Greek chain, but Morcos left the franchise and changed the name in late 2008. My Greek was a full-service restaurant with table service and a complete bar. The menu was straightforward Greek with standards like gyros and souvlaki, along with Italian dishes, pizza and a few American surf-and-turf items.

For whatever reason, there has been a lot of recent activity involving Greek and Mediterranean restaurants. A recap:

* Zara Mediterranean, the restaurant that opened in August 2011 in downtown Tacoma near 15th and Pacific closed last week. The restaurants served higher-end Greek and Eastern Mediterranean fare.

* It’s Greek To Me, the longtime restaurant on Sixth Avenue, is about to move. Owner Jim Wick is moving his fixture restaurant across the street with an expected opening date of January 2013. The move comes with a single digit address change to 1702 Sixth Ave., Tacoma The concept will remain the same – a fast-casual Greek eatery.

* Ammar’s Mediterranean Grill is preparing to open near the Tacoma Dome at 409 E. 26th St., Tacoma. Ammar’s is an outpost of Mediterranean Palace, a restaurant that opened in Freighthouse Square in 1989. Both restaurants will be run by Ammar and Sorada Mannaa.
