Two restaurants that opened during the summer restaurant renaissance of 2011 have apparently closed. The phone at Zara today is ringing as disconnected and I haven’t been able to confirm a closure with an owner, but several restaurant owners and readers have reported that Zara Mediterranean has appeared closed since Tuesday. Another restaurant that appears closed is Massimo in University Place. I’ve left a message with owner Cindy Terracciano and will report back details as I collect them.

Zara Mediterranean opened in August 2011, serving Eastern Mediterranean cuisine with accents from Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece. It opened during a period when several other higher-end restaurants debuted, including Marrow on Sixth Avenue and Social on the Foss waterway.

Massimo University Place opened in July 2011 as the sibling restaurant to the Purdy Italian eatery of the same name that Massimo and Cindy Terracciano opened in 2009. They previously owned Terracciano’s in Gig Harbor. Here’s a story about the University Place restaurant’s opening last year.
