Gyros update: It’s Greek to Me move on schedule for Jan. 1, Greek festival this weekend

Two important things for your gyro radar: The annual Greek festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox church is this Friday through Sunday. I’ll have a complete story with tips for how to eat around the festival this Friday, but for now, here’s another important gyros update – It’s Greek To Me is on schedule with its move across the street.

Owner Jim Wick announced in June that he’s moving his restaurant of two decades, It’s Greek To Me, from the little building at the funky intersection where Sixth, Sprague and Division collide to an older, but less funky, building across the street. The move will come with a single digit address change – 1702 Sixth Ave. He expects to open by Jan. 1.

Wrote Wick by email, “I’m really excited, it’s going to be a little slice of Greece when we are done. Beautiful rafters, 100 year old barn wood on the walls, rustic concrete, and lots of art. Same counter service with a full catering kitchen and same prices but we may add a few items that really sell well in Puyallup (the other It’s Greek To Me location). Plus new everything from bathrooms to espresso and Greek pastries in the morning.” The new space will triple the dining room. There still will be a drive-through and order-at-the-counter service at the new location.

Wick has a long history of restaurant ownership in South Sound, opening Sixth Avenue’s It’s Greek To Me more than 20 years ago with several other locations that have come and gone. In 2010, he opened an It’s Greek To Me in downtown Puyallup.
