Mother’s Day dining 2012: How to score points with mom

For Mother’s Day, I don’t need bath salts or a trip to the spa – although both would be nice, thanks. I’d probably just settle for SOMEONE besides me actually doing the dishes for once (a-hem), but if you really want to score points? How about a nice brunch? (HINT HINT HINT) A plethora of restaurants will be serving brunch or breakfast spreads. Even catering companies are getting in on the deal. These events are for Mother’s Day only, which is Sunday, May 13.


Anthony’s restaurants in Point Defiance and Gig Harbor will have a brunch and lunch event, and will serve dinner, too. Click here for restaurant details.

Asado in Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue neighborhood will have a special brunch from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. On the menu is a lobster omelette with Beechers white cheddar and poblano hollandaise, vanilla bean and orange brioche French toast, flat-iron steak with bacon lentils, chorizo and eggs. Brix 25 in Gig Harbor will have a brunch from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and a dinner from 3:30 p.m-8:30 p.m. On the menu is duck egg scramble with bacon ($18), maple-orange glazed ham steak ($16), Brioche French toast ($15), a seared pork chop ($20) and stuffed trout ($19). The Buttered Biscuit in downtown Sumner, one of my favorite places in the region for breakfast, will serve its usual all-day breakfast menu from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Here’s something new at the restaurant: they now have seating upstairs. Click here for details. No reservations accepted.

Chambers Bay Grill in University Place will have a brunch with seatings at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The buffet will have a carving station with prime rib, lots of salads, eggs on biscuits with Hollandaise, applewood smoked bacon, fritattas and a lot more. C.I. Shenanigan’s will have an all-day brunch and dinner buffet at the Ruston waterfront restaurant. The menu will feature an omelet station, a carving station, lots of fresh seafood and a dessert bar. If they have it, you’ll definitely want to self serve at the bloody Mary bar. The Homestead Restaurant in South Tacoma will serve a breakfast menu and homemade pies all day on Mother’s Day. The restaurant is at 7837 South Tacoma Way, 253-476-9000.

Joeseppi’s Italian Ristorante in Tacoma will have a Mother’s Day brunch from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with a carving station, pasta, breakfast items and desserts. Adults are $19.95 each. For details, click here.

The Meeker Mansion in Puyallup will have a Mother’s Day tea Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13, 2012, with seatings at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. cost is $12 per person. Reservations and prepayment required. Click here for details.

Pacific Grill in downtown Tacoma will have a brunch buffet from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. On the menu is hand-carved prime rib, maple glazed ham, spinach strata, brioche French toast, grilled salmon, a selection of pastries, salads and desserts. Price is $31.95 for adults. More details are here.

Primo Grill in Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue neighborhood will have an a la carte brunch with Dungeness crab or grilled portabella fritattas, smoked salmon or traditional eggs Benedict with scratch Hollandaise, porcini crusted halibut and wild King salmon. Dinner specials include salmon, halibut and a slow-roasted pig from South Sound farmer Cheryl Ouellette. Reservations required. More details are here.

Stanley & Seafort’s on McKinley Hill is having a mom’s morning brunch from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Details are here.

The Tacoma Art Museum will have a catered brunch for $30 a person at the downtown Tacoma museum. The buffet also includes a free family photo and tours of the galleries. For details, click here.

The Bite Restaurant at Hotel Murano in downtown Tacoma will have an a la carte brunch menu. The menu has gingerbread French toast ($11), a crab and mushroom fritatta ($15), grilled wild salmon ($16), prime rib ($20) and a lot more. Here’s something cool: A $5 kid menu. The Cliff House restaurant in Browns Point will have a Mother’s Day brunch from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The buffet will include a carving station with ham and New York loin roast, five seafood dishes, a variety of fritattas and scrambles, pasta dishes, a dessert buffet and more. Gallucci’s Catering, which formerly operated the cafe at the Museum of Glass, has taken over another event facility. They’re now the caterers at the Liberty Theater in Puyallup. They’ll have their first catered brunch event with seatings at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Find the menu and details here.
