Wine and brew festival this weekend at Ashford

This week is free entry to Mount Rainer National Park and here’s just one more reason to head there – a beer and wine festival in Ashford.

Event details from organizers:

What it is: Third Annual “On the Road to Paradise” wine and beer festival, from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 28 2012, at the Lions Hall in Ashford.

Music: “It features music to sip by and food prepared to pair with wines. Bill Compher, classical guitarist, will play at 2 p.m., followed by Robin Gardner and Steve Schwind on hammered dulcimer, fiddle, guitar and banjo. At 6 p.m., trombonist Randy Oxford will demonstrate the talent that earned him a place in the Washington Blues Society’s Hall of Fame.”

For sipping: “New wineries making their first appearance at the festival include Spokane’s Knipprath Cellars and Barrister Winery; Whisper Ridge Winery from Zillah, Eastern Washington; Walla Walla’s Five Star Cellars and Mount St Helens Cellars located near Castle Rock on Spirit Lake Highway. Old favorites returning are Agate Creek Cellars from the Chehalis Valley; Bateaux Cellars, a boutique winery located near the Cowlitz River; Madsen Family Cellars from Olympia; Scatter Creek Winery from Tenino; Small Lot CO-OP representing small lot wineries in Washington State. Beer will be provided by Tacoma’s Harmon Brewing Company.”

More details: “The event is held in conjunction with the entry-free week to Mount Rainier National Park, April 21 through 29. People who book lodging on April 27 or 28 in Ashford, Elbe, Mineral and Longmire receive one free ticket to the festival. (Some establishments may require a 2-night minimum stay). Tickets cost $20 through April 24th (that’s today!). After the 24th and at the door, tickets cost $25. Each admission includes a wine glass and 10 tasting tickets. There will be cheese, too: “Artisan cheeses from Eatonville’s Mountain Lodge Farm. The creamery’s cheeses are crafted from the sweet, fat-rich milk of their hand-raised Nigerian Dwarf and La Mancha goats.”
