Along a three-mile stretch of Lakewood, find five Korean barbecue restaurants where diners cook their own food atop a gas-fueled grill. Boathouse 19: Coming to the Narrows Marina this summer

Construction at Boathouse 19 took the building down to the studs. The new waterfront restaurant is expected to open in July 2012. Photo courtesy of the Lobster Shop

The name has been selected – and it’s Boathouse 19. That’s the previously nameless waterfront restaurant I told you about in February in this blog post. The 230-seat restaurant will open at the Narrows Marina, located near Day Island, down the hill from South 19th and Bridgeport. First bite: Little European Cafe in Tacoma

Piroshky, fried, yeasty dough stuffed with potato, pork or cabbage, are served in a variety of shapes and configurations at Little European Cafe in Tacoma. Pictured here is pork belyashi.

For years, I’ve written about the piroshky, hearty breads and delicious cakes of Friendly Foods, an Eastern European grocery store near the corner of South Union Avenue and Center Street in Tacoma. In January, the little grocery store expanded next door with an equally small fast-style cafe serving European steam table fare. Read more »
