South Sound beer notes: Harmon Tap Room offers take-out, 7 Seas Brewing moving to larger location

Just in time for the Super Bowl, the Harmon Tap Room will start pushing its take-out business with pizza and beer-by-the-growler to go. And in other very important South Sound beer news, 7 Seas Brewing in Gig Harbor is moving to a much bigger location.

Pat Nagle, owner of the three Harmon restaurants – Harmon Brewery, The Hub and Harmon Tap Room – sent me an email earlier this week detailing the changes coming soon to the Harmon Tap Room.

Said Nagle, “We are preparing our Tap Room Takeout to be dialed in for Super Bowl weekend. We will be putting in Tap Room Takeout Parking Only signs in our lot next to Doyle’s – we rent half of that lot. Our concept is to promote a fast, convenient and easy way to get takeout items (pizza, grinders, salads and hot wings) with Harmon beer. We feel our location is perfect for this and we will make it easy for those to order and pick up. We hope to get as tech savy as possible in the near future but will start with ordering over the phone.” He said to-go beer will be sold in bottles, growlers and/or kegs.

Also in other Harmon Tap Room news, look for changes in the back room of the pub. That room is going to turn into a live music venue sometime in the next few months.

7 Seas Brewing Co.

Construction is underway at a new 7 Seas Brewing location in downtown Gig Harbor. Mike Runion, co-owner of the brewery, said via email that the brewery has outgrown its location and the new 11,000 square foot space inside the old QFC at 3006 Judson St. will allow the brewery to operate on a much larger scale. They plan to dedicate 8,600 square feet to brewing and the remainder of that space to a tap room.

The two-year-old brewery hopes to nearly triple its beer production. They expect to be brewing the first batches in the new location around March. The tap room is expected to open sometime between June and October. The current tap room will remain open as they shift to the new facility.

I had a big question for Mike Runion, “Will 7 Seas new tap room have food or a restaurant?” Not now, said Runion by email. “We won’t have a kitchen in our new location, but we are hoping to work with a great local restaurant … and those already there. Time will tell. We do currently, and plan to in the new location, allow food to be brought in. From pizza and burgers, to cheese and salami plates – whatever drives the taste buds and demands pairing.”

Also in Gig Harbor restaurant news, Moctezuma’s director of operations Bernie Garcia sent me an email saying construction is underway at the new Gig Harbor Moctezuma’s, which is relocating to Harbor Monsoon at 4628 Point Fosdick Dr. N.W. I’ll report more soon. Moctezuma’s also operates a restaurant in Tacoma at 4102 S. 56th St.
