In case you missed it, way back in December, I went on a mission to find the best bar burgers. That resulted in 20 bar burgers you have to eat before you die. This week, I’m coming back to visit more burgers suggested by readers (you can read about other reader suggested burgers here).
Today’s featured burger: The Masa Burger.

If the proof of a good burger is in the cheese, the Masa burger delivers the goods. Crispy fried pepperjack bacon cheese on a half-pound patty made out of ground chuck? Drool.
The Masa burger is not for the burger purist. If onions are too fancy for you, stay clear of this burger, served at one of Sixth Avenue’s most popular restaurants.
The Masa burger was tasty, but it was not a burger with individually discernible flavors. Each flavor layer – and there were a lot of them – melded into the next. Roasted jalapenos and onions added heat and sweet, the fried cheese added crispy saltiness and the roasted poblano mayo provided another layer of zing. Spicy avocado and pico de gallo also stung my palate with light hits of spice. I was glad for the crisp lettuce to cool things down (a beer to with it doesn’t hurt in that regard, either). Handcut fries on the side were crispy good, although a touch greasy on my visit. They’re covered in cheese and an herbal blast of cilantro. Ask for extra poblano mayo for dipping.
Other burgers on the menu to try: The Black and Bleu Tapatio Burger, the Barbecue Pineapple Burger and BC Burger (bacon cheeseburger). All burgers come with fries and are priced $9.79.
Tip: If you didn’t know it already, Masa has one of the best happy hours in town. It’s also offered all day Sunday-Tuesday.
